COMMITTEES / COMMISSIONS / BOARDS

The City of Fountain Valley receives applications on an ongoing basis from volunteers who would like to serve on the following Committees, Commissions and Boards. The City Council makes appointments annually. Applications are available in the City Clerk’s office located at 10200 Slater Avenue, Fountain Valley or by clicking on the link below. PLANNING COMMISSION

The Planning Commission acts in accordance with the ordinances of the City and State laws. It makes recommendations to the Council regarding amendment or repeal of a Master Plan, development within the City, subdivision of land, blighted and substandard areas of the City, zoning and land use, etc. The Planning Commission meets on the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of the month at 7:00 P.M. in the City Council Chambers.

FOUNTAIN VALLEY COMMUNTIY FOUNDATION                 

  

At the November 20, 2007 City Council Meeting, the Fountain Valley Community Foundation was established.  This Foundation will be organized exclusively for charitable purposes.  More specifically, to solicit, receive, invest and make grants of funds, property and other resources and to provide direct charitable services to aid, sponsor, promote, advance and assist worthy activities, programs and services in the City of Fountain Valley; and to establish and maintain a permanent collection of named funds that carry out the diverse charitable purposes specified by the governing body and donors.

The initial Board will play a crucial role in establishing the Community Foundation and setting its goals.  Therefore, the person applying for this position should hold the following minimum qualifications:

  • Live or work within the City of Fountain Valley
  • Experience working with non profit organizations

The Fountain Valley Community Foundation Board’s initial functions and responsibilities will be to adopt governing bylaws, develop a budget and setup accounts, file with both Federal and State agencies, apply for non profit status, establish goals, manage assets, develop marketing publication to attract financial support, and assist worthy activities, programs and services in the City of Fountain Valley.  The Board will meet on an as needed basis which will be determined by the Board of Directors at the first meeting; schedule pending.

COMMUNITY SERVICES COMMISSION

The Community Services Commission works in conjunction with the staff in all matters pertaining to public parks and recreation. It formulates and recommends policies on recreation services for approval by the City Council, advises on development of recreation areas, facilities, programs, and improved recreation services and aids in coordinating recreation services with programs of other government agencies and voluntary organizations, etc. The Community Services Commission meets on the 4th Tuesday of the month at 7:00 P.M. in the City Council Chambers.

TRAFFIC ADVISORY COMMITTEE

The Traffic Advisory Committee assists in the preparation and publication of traffic reports, receives complaints regarding traffic matters, and makes recommendations regarding traffic condition improvements and administration and enforcement of traffic regulations. The Committee meets on the 3rd Wednesday of the month at 7:00 P.M. in the City Council Chambers.

HOUSING AND COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT ADVISORY BOARD

The Committee reviews the City’s ongoing Block Grant Program and makes recommendations for future activities to be undertaken by the City. The Block Grant Program regulations (HUD) require that the City “shall provide citizens with an adequate opportunity to participate in an advisory role in planning, implementing, and assessing the programs.” The Board meets on the 1st Wednesday of the month at 7:00 P.M. in the City Council Chambers.

ADVISORY COMMITTEE FOR THE DISABLED

The Committee’s primary function and responsibilities are to facilitate the development of barrier-free buildings and facilities within the City, assist the various departments in the implementation of specific guidelines for accessible facilities, facilitate the development of recreational programs useable by the handicapped, provide information concerning special recreation equipment, work with various levels of education on the development and implementation programs to assure maximum integration for handicapped students in such programs and to develop community awareness of the employment potentials of the handicapped population. The Committee meets on the 1st Thursday of every other month at 7:00 P.M. in the City Hall Conference Room No. 1.
