The Fountain Valley Fire Department participates in automatic aid agreements with the surrounding Fire Departments. Automatic aid is when a neighboring City Fire Department is automatically dispatched to an emergency in Fountain Valley because Fountain Valley units are committed to other emergencies in town. Fountain Valley has automatic aid agreements with Santa Ana, Huntington Beach, Orange County Fire Authority and Costa Mesa.
Fountain Valley also participates in Mutual Aid agreements with other Orange County Fire Departments. The purpose of mutual aid is to easily access additional fire units and resources that may not be available within a jurisdiction or by automatic aid. Examples include: Hazardous Materials Emergency Response Teams, Wildland Strike Teams, Urban Search and Rescue Teams, and Confined Space Entry Teams.
Training
Considering the vast array of emergency calls that fire departments respond to, training is a major priority for the Fountain Valley Fire Department. Emergency Responders must be prepared for any type of incident, at any time. Training includes daily activities like Medical Emergencies and Traffic Collisions to rare events like Wildland Fires, Swift Water Rescue and Weapons of Mass Destruction. Training is the only way to ensure that firefighters will be prepared to handle each type of call efficiently and safely, whether they happen everyday or once a year.
