The cost of landfill disposal and its impact on the community is very important to the City, as are conservation of natural resources and compliance with strict state waste reduction laws.
In order to meet these challenges and provide cost effective and convenient waste disposal, the City of Fountain Valley, through its contracted waste disposal company, Rainbow Disposal, processes both residential and commercial waste through a Material Recovery Facility (MRF). The MRF mechanically and manually sort recyclable material from trash. This process provides for convenient waste disposal for the community without the burden of having to separate trash from recyclable material and plant waste. In addition, this cost effective approach provides unlimited waste disposal for the community and regulatory compliance. In fact, the City’s efforts have been so successful within this area that it has received national recognition from the United States Conference of Mayors.
