News & Information
With any substantial rain, roadway trash in curbs and catch basins is flushed through the storm drain system to the ocean and beaches. The cumulative impact of thousands of catch basins countywide dumping trash to the ocean and beaches is very significant.
Using a $99,645 OCTA Measure M Environmental grant and City matching services funds of $39,317, the City has completed installation of 63 specialized trash filters inside storm drain catch basins. The filters capture trash, sediment, and other pollutants for later removal and disposal by the Public Works Department. City staff will continue to pursue future grant opportunities to purchase and install additional trash filters.
