General Plan Update

Did you know the City is updating its General Plan?

The Fountain Valley General Plan is the primary long-range policy and planning document guiding the city's physical development, conservation, and improvement. Every city in California is required by state law to adopt a general plan containing goals and
policies that expresses the community's vision of its future, improves public safety, and enhances access to and the use of available resources.

The City's General Plan was last comprehensively updated in 1995. For more information review the project Fact Sheet, Public Involvement Plan, and Schedule.

What's New:

Updated Draft Vision

We would appreciate your input on the Updated Draft Vision Statement. The Vision Statement expresses the community’s shared outcomes for the City’s future and is based on community values concerning the characteristics and qualities of life that are important today and should be retained in the future, as well as how the community should evolve and respond to changing conditions. On July 17, 2019, the GPAC discussed and developed the updated Draft Vision Statement. It will not be finalized by the GPAC until it concludes its work on the General Plan, but it provides a solid framework to guide the group’s remaining efforts. If you have any comments, please email them to Brian James at or attend the next GPAC meeting to provide input.
