Lieutenant Mike Parsons

Lieutenant Mike Parsons obtained a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English Literature and Education from California State University of Long Beach in 1999.  He obtained a Master of Arts Degree in Inter-Cultural Urban Studies from Hope International University (Fullerton, CA) in 2001.  During a portion of this time, he lived abroad in Caceres, Spain.  Upon his return, he joined the Fountain Valley Police Department in December of 2001. 

After graduating from the Orange County Sheriff’s Academy, he worked his first patrol shift in July 2002.  Mike worked four years in patrol before becoming a Field Training officer and West County SWAT Operator.  He was assigned to the Investigations Bureau in 2006, and worked as the Youth and Family Services Detective for five years.  He promoted to Senior Officer in 2007, and promoted to Sergeant in 2012.  After several years as a patrol supervisor and SWAT operations sergeant, Mike was assigned to supervise the Traffic Bureau.  After two and a half years in Traffic, he promoted to Lieutenant in January of 2020.  He worked as the Investigations Bureau Commander and SWAT Commander.  Mike is a graduate of the Golden West Leadership Development Course, the Sherman Block Leadership Institute, and has completed the CA POST Management course.  Mike rotated to the Patrol Division in January 2022 and continues to manage the department’s Peer Support Team.

Mike and his wife Stephanie have been married for over 11 years and have two young sons.  They live and work in the City of Fountain Valley and are active in youth sports, church, and outdoor activities.
