In recognition of its ongoing commitment to its community forest, the City of Fountain Valley has been recognized as a “Tree City USA” city since 2015 . This prestigious national program, sponsored by the National Arbor Day Foundation in cooperation with the National Association of State Foresters and the United States Department of Agriculture Forest Service, recognizes environmental improvement and higher levels of tree care in Tree City USA communities.
The City of Fountain designates a special in day in March every year to celebrate Arbor Day. Usually the Public Works Department celebrates Arbor Day with students from one of Fountain Valley's elementary schools at a local park. The event gives the students an opportunity to learn about the importance of trees and maintaining our urban forest for the betterment of our community. In addition, students get to help City staff plant trees in the park and learn about the many benefits trees provide for our environment.
This year, the City Council has declared March 7, 2022, as Arbor Day in the City of Fountain Valley. In order to celebrate Arbor Day safely, the Public Works Department created an entertaining and educational Arbor Day video to share the importance of trees with our local students and community. We hope you enjoy it!
The City of Fountain Valley values the important role of trees in our community and diligently manages an urban forest of over 12,000 trees located in City parks, civic facilities, right-of-ways, medians and residential parkways.
Fountain Valley residents who are interested in assisting with the City’s reforestation efforts, increasing the curb appeal of their homes and beautifying their neighborhoods can arrange to have a parkway tree planted in front of their homes. For just $35, the City will purchase, deliver and plant a new parkway tree. Interested residents can stop by the Public Works counter in City Hall, located at 10200 Slater Avenue, or call 714-593-4433 for more information.
