On March 3, 2020, the City Council recommended adoption of an ordinance approving new development standards for Accessory Dwelling Units (ADU’s) compliant with state mandated changes that took effect earlier this year. A second reading of the ordinance will be heard by the City Council on March 17, 2020. If approved, the ordinance will be effective April 16, 2020. Some of the major changes include the following:
- No minimum lot size to qualify for an ADU
- Two (2) ADU’s are permitted per lot (one attached or detached ADU, and one junior ADU)
- 4 foot setbacks to rear/side property lines
- Attached ADU max size can be 50% of the primary dwelling
- Detached ADU max size 1,200 square feet
- Detached ADU max height 16 feet
- Owner occupancy not required for all ADU’s except Junior ADU’s until January 1, 2025
