As part of its
Energy Efficiency Program, the City is installing solar panels at several
locations throughout Fountain Valley, starting with the Recreation Center
parking lot. A portion of the parking lot is currently fenced off to allow for
the installation, which is expected to be completed by the end of October. The
solar panels will allow the City to save on energy costs, generate clean energy
and provide shade to parked vehicles. Installation of solar panels at the
Center at Founders Village and the City Yard will follow.
In addition to
installing solar panels at various locations, the City is also replacing the
existing HVAC units for the Council Chambers and Recreation Center with new,
energy efficient units. This upgrade is especially exciting at the Recreation
Center because it will provide the gymnasium with heat and air conditioning for
the first time. Exterior lighting at City facilities and parks have also been
retrofitted with energy efficient LED fixtures.
Once completed,
the Energy Efficiency Project will result in an estimated annual energy savings
of $190,000 and reduce City facility related greenhouse gas emissions by 20%.
