June is Post-Traumatic Stress Injury (PTSI) Awareness Month. The California Firefighter Behavioral Health Task Force is asking all fire departments and local unions to raise awareness this month to break the stigma that speaking up is a weakness. Post-traumatic stress is an injury that is no less in need of treatment than a broken bone. Left unaddressed, it can lead to harmful behaviors and, tragically, even suicide.
It’s time to bring PTSI out of the shadows. We stand together on the frontlines and at home – you are not alone.
If you are in crisis, or know someone who is, the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline is (800) 273-8255.
